New Subsidies for Self-consumption

The changes in electricity tariffs and the prices that electricity is reaching make self-consumption one of the most profitable investments of the moment.

The amortization of an investment in a solar panel system for self-consumption, without any type of aid, takes just under 7 years.

Sin embargo,if you count with IBI bonuses, ICIO bonuses, or regional subsidies, this time is reduced to 4 and a half years.

On June 29, the Spanish Government approved a series of subsidies for the installation of solar panels.

The application period will begin on December 2, 2021.

There are 3 main categories of subsidies: self-consumption, batteries and renewable air conditioning. Within these categories there are 6 programs:

Self-consumption and storage in the service sector, where 120 million will be allocated, of which 20 million will go to storage.
Self-consumption and storage in other productive sectors, such as industry or agriculture. This sector receives 175 million, of which 25 million is for storage.
Incorporation of storage in existing self-consumption in economic sectors. For this purpose, 45 million euros are offered to be distributed among the Autonomous Regions and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla.
Self-consumption and storage in the residential sector, the public sector and the third sector, where 215 million will be allocated, 15 million of which will be for storage, i.e. batteries.
This program is the one that boosts the self-consumption to which we are dedicated in Arroyo Installations.
Incorporation of self-consumption storage in the residential sector, public sector and third sector, with 5 million budgeted.
In this case, if you have a residential self-consumption system that can be expanded by incorporating batteries, you will be eligible for these subsidies.
Air conditioning and sanitary hot water obtained with renewables in the residential sector, including public subsidized housing. 100 million is earmarked for this project.

Requirements for program 4 grants

In order to apply for these government subsidies for residential self-consumption, the following criteria must be met:

The installation invoice must be dated after June 30, 2021.
Production and consumption must be measurable.
The size of the installation is also key. The production of the system may exceed, at most, 25% of the annual consumption. That is, if last year’s consumption was 1000 kWh, you are not eligible if you install a system that produces more than 1250 kWh.
In the case of batteries, they can have a maximum capacity of twice the power of the solar inverter. In other words, for a 3 kWn inverter, a maximum of a 6 kWh battery can be installed.

Grant amounts

In the case of the most common installations, with a peak power of less than 10kWp, the amounts are 600 € for each kWp of the installation and 490 € per kWh in the battery. And although less common, in the case of installations larger than 10kWp, subsidies range between 450€ and 300€ per kWp installed.

In municipalities with less than 20,000 and 5,000 inhabitants, 20,000 in non-urban land and 5,000 in urban land, additional subsidies of 55 € /kWp in the installation and 15 € /kWh in the battery have to be added to the aforementioned amounts.
